Grandmaster Byung Seok Lee took his first steps in Taekwondo in 1972, but his serious training began a few years later. His journey started when an older Taekwondo practitioner in his neighborhood began teaching on the streets. Although his first experience with Taekwondo took place in a formal dojang, his true training happened every morning, practicing alongside friends under the guidance of his senior instructor.
As time passed, Grandmaster Lee followed in his mentor’s footsteps. In 1982, he began teaching Taekwondo to children in his neighborhood who could not afford training fees, gathering them on the streets each morning to share the art of Taekwondo.
In 1986, he took on the role of an instructor at Wang Ho Taekwondo in Naebalsan-dong, Seoul, while also briefly teaching Taekwondo during physical education classes at Hwagok Middle School. Soon after, he moved to the United States, where he gained valuable experience in dojang management and hands-on instruction while working as an instructor at Grandmaster HK Lee’s Taekwondo School.
In June 1988, Grandmaster Lee relocated to Greenville, North Carolina, and opened his own Taekwondo dojang, marking the beginning of his Taekwondo legacy in the United States. Since then, he has remained dedicated to spreading the teachings and philosophy of Taekwondo, shaping the lives of countless students.
